Most Memorable Adverts

TV advert

The most memorable TV advert i have seen is for the floor cleaner 'Flash'

It is memorable because it is of a dog who is singing which is not something you normally see, this makes it funny and entertaining.

Cute dogs are good way to entice people and lots of times through out the advert the dog appears to smile which is a technique used by advertisers to subconsciously make you associate happy emotions with them.

The way the advert pans the camera around the houses emphasizes the products versatility and uses.

Lots of people can relate to the advert because lots of dog owners know what its like to bring home a muddy dog so this advert offers a solutions whilst making humor of it.

I am not the target market for floor cleaner so i would not be enticed to buy it, however it is an amusing advert.

On maslows hierarchy of needs this falls in stage 3 of love and belonging because it involves the  idea of a comfortable family household which would allow you to grow and be relaxed.

Poster Advert

The most memorable poster advert i have seen is the halifax Dorothy adverts.

It is memorable because it uses a familiar figure which triggers nostalgia in many people of all ages, although the wizard of oz is an old film it s targeted for children so many people of all ages know her.

It uses a fun, bright and playful font to attract the eyes of passer by's.

The large image in the corner entices the eye upwards so read the small text which is one of the company slogans.

You can also tell that green background s the shape of the company logo which is an x as you can see the blue triangles creating that image in a more subconscious way.

This advert would not entice me because again i am not the target market for a mortgage loan.

This advert would also fall in stage 3 of maslows hierarchy of needs because it is about how to find a comfortable home environment at a price that you can afford so you don't need to worry. This could also be stage 1 because shelter is a necessity for living.

The Big Issue

1. The big issue is different to other business models because it is a social enterprise sold only on the streets not in shops. This makes their distribution method completely different to other magazines giving them a new market on the streets operating as micro businesses.

2. The big issue social and political principals are to dismantle poverty. They do this by employing homeless people and those living in poverty to sell the magazines. This creates an income for those facing poverty and gives them a purpose by working everyday.

3. The big issues brand identity is how to tackle social issues through business solutions. They call it 'ethical capitalism' By using the wealth created to help society without harming people or the environment whilst using the engine of capitalism.

4. The stories they chose to feature are usually politically charged. They love talking about Donald Trump because he is the perfect mixture of business, politics and social issues. They also like to feature celebrity's and have access to many because of the good reputation they have celebrities love to be associated with the big issue.

5. People are often presented in a comedic way if the big issue opposed them, however if it is someone the big issue likes they will present them in a good strong way. People who they are opposed to are often made fun of.

6. The big issue uses media language to convey meaning by the use of irony and humor which is different to other magazines. The big issue will make fun of politicians slogans and use photo editing to convey their message. Often it is of 2 ends of the spectrum to make people look good or to make people look bad. They often like to use cartoon images in their covers which is a use of intertextuality because they look more like a children's comic however it has a very different political message.

'Media Representations Are Often Created By The Industries That Produce Them'

I agree with the statement because industries are completely aware of the representations they put out into the media because a lot of thought and work goes into these representations. For example newspapers create a brand image for themselves on the political spectrum, for example the daily mail is a right wing newspaper, so every representation they portray immediately gets associated to that, meaning the representations are coming directly from the industries. In the film industry producers of films are in full control of if they have a female as the lead in the same way they are in control of how they portray her so the representation comes form inside the industry.

Independent VS Studio

Independent studios

An independent studio is a studio separate to the mainstream large big budget companies who have started from scratch.

Independent studios find it difficult to raise and maintain finance without the support that billion dollar studios have. They also struggle to find popular distribution channels which will gain them recognition which makes it very difficult to be successful in the indie industry.

Indie industry's tend to be more creative as they have more control over what they produce and more freedom to create what ever they like as their is no pressure from mass audiences. They tend to have a niche audience.

For example in the game world Mojang was an independent games company. They created mine craft until they were bought by the studio company Microsoft.

Indie Games

An example of an indie gaming company is 3G studios, 3G Studios was founded in 2006 by James Kosta and several key employees from BattleBorne.

It is located in Nevada In the USA.

They have released many games for platforms such as play station and the apple game store.

Indie Films

Shane Dawson is an american youtuber with over 18 million subscribers who creates mini documentaries about different topics including many people involved in the youtube industry. The documentaries are uploaded to youtube every couple of months and receive a largely good response everytime.

Even though he is an independent documentaries creator has got over 96 million views on his 5 part series 'the secret world of jeffree star'

Sometimes the series are sponsored meaning he can receive income per view this way. However it is just him and his filmographer Andrew Siwicki filming and producing these widely received documentaries which have done better than most big budget documentary series.

Shane also sells merchandise to fund his projects as the money from youtube is not as substantial compared to a big budget Netflix documentary.

Another example of Shane's work is his series documenting the struggles faced by youtubers to stay relevant and maintain audiences. It amassed 64.7 million views and starred a fellow famous youtuber 'grav3yardgirl'

Indie music

Surfaces music is an indie music group

They Distribute through you-tube and Instagram 2 very popular platforms. They have amassed over 1000 followers on instgram and their youtube channel has reached 14,000 views.

Indie companies struggle with fiance and advertisement so surfaces music sell merchandise which will advertise and bring in revenue.

Studio Industries
Studio industries are large big budget production companies often backed by advertisers and investors. They have a large mass audience so struggle to please everyone.

Critics and the internet play a large role on whether they are successful or not depending on the reviews and response they receive.

Studio Games
King is a studio gaming company worth over $575 million. It was founded in 2003 in Sweden by Riccardo Zacconi. There head quarters are now located in London and their parent company is Blizzard.
In November 2015, Activision Blizzard announced its plans to acquire King for $5.9 billion.

They produce the hit game candy crush and bubble witch which are played by millions.

CBS produced a live-action Candy Crush game show in partnership with King that premiered on July 9, 2017. It was an hour-long competition among several two-person teams using interactive games that are based on Candy Crush. The show was produced by Lionsgate with executive producer Matt Kunitz.

Studio Films
Disney is a studio company founded in 1923 by Walt Disney. They were the first to produce a talking coloured animation which was snow white and the seven dwarfs. They are currently worth $8 Billion.

They are famous for their mascot character mickey mouse and their worldwide theme parks. Advertisers and distributors will instantly work with Disney because they guaranteed to make money. For example the 2013 movie Frozen grossed $1.2 billion.

With studio movies creativity is limited because they know what works best hence the many many Disney princess movies and remakes like the jungle book and Cinderella.

Studio Music

Sony Music Entertainment is the second largest of the "Big Three" record companies, behind Universal Music Group

Fake News

Fake news is false information deliberately distributed to the public.

Fake news is a type of yellow journalism or propaganda that consists of deliberate disinformation or hoaxes spread via traditional print and broadcast news media or online social media. The term is also at times used to cast doubt upon legitimate news from an opposing political standpoint, a tactic known as the lying press.

This has been seen through out history although is generally seen as a more modern prolem. Throughout world war 2 fake news was a big issue with hitlers propaganda.

However in more modern times fake news has been popularised by Donald Trump. A 2018 study at Oxford University found that Trump's supporters consumed the "largest volume of 'junk news' on Facebook and Twitter"One fake news writer, Paul Horner, was behind the widespread hoax that he was the graffiti artist Banksy and had been arrested that a man stopped a robbery in a diner by quoting Pulp Fiction; and that he had an "enormous impact" on the 2016 U.S. presidential election, according to CBS News. These stories consistently appeared in Google's top news search results.
