Independent studios

An independent studio is a studio separate to the mainstream large big budget companies who have started from scratch.

Independent studios find it difficult to raise and maintain finance without the support that billion dollar studios have. They also struggle to find popular distribution channels which will gain them recognition which makes it very difficult to be successful in the indie industry.

Indie industry's tend to be more creative as they have more control over what they produce and more freedom to create what ever they like as their is no pressure from mass audiences. They tend to have a niche audience.

For example in the game world Mojang was an independent games company. They created mine craft until they were bought by the studio company Microsoft.

Indie Games

An example of an indie gaming company is 3G studios, 3G Studios was founded in 2006 by James Kosta and several key employees from BattleBorne.

 It is located in Nevada In the USA.

They have released many games for platforms such as play station and the apple game store.















Indie Films

Shane Dawson is an american youtuber with over 18 million subscribers who creates mini documentaries about different topics including many people involved in the youtube industry. The documentaries are uploaded to youtube every couple of months and receive a largely good response everytime.


Even though he is an independent documentaries creator has got over 96 million views on his 5 part series 'the secret world of jeffree star'

Sometimes the series are sponsored meaning he can receive income per view this way. However it is just him and his filmographer Andrew Siwicki filming and producing these widely received documentaries which have done better than most big budget documentary series.

Shane also sells merchandise to fund his projects as the money from youtube is not as substantial compared to a big budget Netflix documentary.

Another example of Shane's work is his series documenting the struggles faced by youtubers to stay relevant and maintain audiences. It amassed 64.7 million views and starred a fellow famous youtuber 'grav3yardgirl'

Indie music

Surfaces music is an indie music group

They Distribute through you-tube and Instagram 2 very popular platforms. They have amassed over 1000 followers on instgram and their youtube channel has reached 14,000 views.

Indie companies struggle with fiance and advertisement so surfaces music sell merchandise which will advertise and bring in revenue. 

Studio Industries
Studio industries are large big budget production companies often backed by advertisers and investors. They have a large mass audience so struggle to please everyone.

Critics and the internet play a large role on whether they are successful or not depending on the reviews and response they receive.

Studio Games
King is a studio gaming company worth over $575 million. It was founded in 2003 in Sweden by Riccardo Zacconi. There head quarters are now located in London and their parent company is Blizzard. In November 2015, Activision Blizzard announced its plans to acquire King for $5.9 billion.

They produce the hit game candy crush and bubble witch which are played by millions.

CBS produced a live-action Candy Crush game show in partnership with King that premiered on July 9, 2017. It was an hour-long competition among several two-person teams using interactive games that are based on Candy Crush. The show was produced by Lionsgate with executive producer Matt Kunitz.



Studio Films
Disney is a studio company founded in 1923 by Walt Disney. They were the first to produce a talking coloured animation which was snow white and the seven dwarfs. They are currently worth $8 Billion.


They are famous for their mascot character mickey mouse and their worldwide theme parks. Advertisers and distributors will instantly work with Disney because they guaranteed to make money. For example the 2013 movie Frozen grossed $1.2 billion.

With studio movies creativity is limited because they know what works best hence the many many Disney princess movies and remakes like the jungle book and Cinderella.




Studio Music
Sony is a studio music producer. It was founded in 1929. It is currently worth $27 billion. However sony music has been in lots of controversy over the years which may have lessened sales.

Sony Music Entertainment is the second largest of the "Big Three" record companies, behind Universal Music Group







Multi millionaire beyonce is signed to sony music showing its power and influence with such a big artist.
