What do you learn about the financial pressures facing newspapers today and how they might shape the decisions about the stories covered?

The financial pressures on newspapers means they need good popular stories fast in order to make money. This leads to them becoming ruthless in exposing people and situations in order to make enough money for the story.


What do you learn about how the ownership of newspapers can effect the stories covered?


Owners dictate the tone of the newspaper articles and what they think will be the most successful. The ownership sldo dictate which stories should be covered regardelss of the journalists interests in other stories.

What do you learn about the legal and ethical regulations newspapers follow?


Journalists are portrayed to have no regard for the people invloved and must be focused on getting the story rather than the meotions of the people. This leads to legal issues over harrasment of people who have just undergone tough events like a family member murdered.

What do you learn abou the role the internet plays in the life of the paper?

The internet causes the journalists to rush stories to be the first to publish as it has less shock value when everybody already knows because they have read it on the internet.


What do you learn about the different values of the red top and broadsheet papers?

Red top papers focus on scandal and gossip particually between public figures like celebritys and politicians, broadsheet papers prefer real stories with more substance and message.
